The goal is to motivate the team to accomplish a specific goal, such as building a new business unit or a desire to increase sales volumes.
The progress of the team is achieved through 4 stages as follows:
First forming : the team leader introduces his team members, sets work rules and sets team goals
The second is the Storming : phase, where the team begins to deal together and personal differences and conflicts set to appear between them. Such is a perfectly natural and significant part of the team's progress, and here is the degree of differentiation from team to team depends on the specific nature of each team.
Third, the norming stage : the stage in which conflicts are settled between the members of the same team and instil the doctrine of cooperation among them, build the culture of the team and teach how to cooperate efficiently and effectively to complete work together
The fourth stage is performing : the Phase of achieving the desired results and accomplishing the goals set at the beginning by the team leader for each team member.
Sometimes some teams get stuck at the norming stage or other. Or conflicts in the Norming phase may cause the team to slide backwards instead of progressing. That can also happen every time the team adds or loses a new member, the team must start again at the forming stage anew. An effective coach can assist with all four of these levels, so a team doesn’t stay in one phase longer than necessary, moving the team to the performing phase more quickly.
A team coach will assist a team in staying on track to accomplish their goal By :
- Facilitating team meetings
- Assisting with creation of an action plan
- Ensuring each team member is clear on his role.
- Maintaining accountability for individuals, Managing any conflicts that arise
- Moving the team towards completion of project on time and on budget
It is important to know that an effective coach does not need to be an expert in your industry.
A coach does not give advice or solutions. A stately team coach will be skilled at active listening and be able to ask curious questions without judgement.
A team coach will ask questions that help the group decide what is best for the team.
